The Feldenkrais Method
The Feldenkrais Method is a form of movement therapy that helps to improve the way we move our bodies. By learning to sense, feel, and pay attention to ourselves, we can reduce unwanted habits, compensations, and patterns that can show up as pain or discomfort in the body. Feldenkrais movement therapy continues the education that began when we were infants; learning how to move our bodies with efficiency and ease. Feldenkrais movement can address any restrictions in our daily movements, especially the basic patterns of breathing, sitting, standing, and walking.
For example, movement therapy can help you to get out of bed in the mornings with less pain and stand in line at the grocery store with less back ache. Movement therapy re-educates the nervous system, the fascia and the muscles. Movement addresses even the deepest layers of muscle therefore helping to organize at the core. The nervous system is like a conductor of an orchestra. It tells the muscles what to do. With small intrinsic movements, we can re-educate our nervous system on how to communicate better with our muscles and joints producing a more efficient system of movement. The more organized our bodies move, the better we are at everything we do including CrossFit, yoga, Pilates, skiing, hiking, biking, gardening and more. Movement therapy helps to prevent injury but it also helps us to recover much faster when injuries do occur. Feldenkrais helps to improve our awareness of how we move our bodies whether we are asleep, still or in motion. Awareness is the first step to changing bad habits.

The Method is taught two ways:
Awareness Through Movement®
verbally guided lessons given in class settings
private hands-on sessions
In Functional Integration, private sessions, the focus is on the client’s specific goals. Using gentle touch, movement, words, and directed attention, the Feldenkrais practitioner guides you through a lesson designed to meet your personal needs. Lessons are taught on a low, firm table with the client fully clothed. Sessions normally last about one hour.
